A post-apocalyptic, honest perspective from the view above. This series represents the unresponsive nature that insects have towards the actions of humans and their footprint after their time on earth has passed.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
This four piece (and growing) series has been thus far created entirely in acrylics on stretched canvas, ranging in size from 2’x3′ all the way up to 3’x 4′. My choice of using insects as my focus stems from a childhood fear and painting them was my own personal therapy in facing that fear as I have done with heights and roller coasters as well.
AS IF TIME HAD ABRUPTLY STOPPED…
The Modern Cultivation series is meant to depict in simplest terms the world after humanity has departed and the smaller creatures of the earth begin making our leftovers their homes. As if time had abruptly stopped, each scene depicts a moment in which the audience can discern for themselves the story leading up to the hyper climactic demise.
As an artist I have an obsession with juxtaposition using cartoon-like qualities against life like scenery. Using vivid color enhances this contrast creating and eye-catching, yet often uncomfortable feeling for viewers since they are attracted to the image and also pushed away based on the content of the piece.
